Novel in a Year guides students through the process of writing a twenty chapter novel over the course of one academic year. Students will work through the various stages of crafting a novel while improving character and plot development, creating believable conflict, developing solid story structure, delving into theme, maintaining clear point of view, detailing their stories by showing versus telling, and bringing the manuscript to a quality climax and resolution. Students will also learn publishing industry standards of editing and critiquing. The ultimate goal will be to help the student perfect the novel to the publishing industry standard. This course will provide students with detailed feedback on chapters and writing assignments from a published author. Novel in a Year will also provide a community of writers to support, brainstorm, and work collaboratively on individual novels.
