Do you want to take a summer math course, but your schedule does not permit a scheduled time for class? This self-paced Intensive Geometry course is designed to be taken in seven weeks, but has a window of fifteen weeks to complete the course. This allows flexibility in your schedule for vacations, jobs, and other summer camps. We will review all major geometry topics as well as strengthen the skills for students who have previously taken a Geometry course. For students who have not yet taken a full year of geometry, this is a basic course to enable you to improve performance in future math courses including Geometry, Algebra II and Pre-Calculus.

Students will build confidence and refresh their comprehension of topics by watching video tutorials provided in pre-recorded videos, followed by a variety of teacher-graded homework assignments. Topics to be studied include:

Week 1: Lines and Angles

Week 2: Right Triangles

Week 3: Congruence and Similarity

Week 4: Other Similarity and Transformations

Week 5: Quadrilaterals and Circles

Week 6: Surface Areas and Volumes

Week 7: Additional Topics and Review

Course Structure:This course will have daily and weekly assignments. Since the course is self-paced, students should follow the order provided in the weekly outline, but assignments may be submitted anytime during the course. Daily assignments will consist of watching a video, answering questions based on the video, electronic homework quizzes of short-answer and essay questions, and completing a note sheet of theorems and formulas. Weekly assignments will be a worksheet covering the week’s topics for which students will complete their answers in pencil, then scan and upload the completed worksheet. A weekly quiz will be assigned after the weekly worksheet.

Who should enroll: The well-prepared applicant is familiar with the fundamentals of algebra (has completed one year of algebra) and has the maturity to diligently complete the assigned homework and seek additional help when necessary. Learning how to learn mathematics is stressed in this course, so students who are motivated to improve should apply.

Technical needs:

Technology Requirements:

  • High speed, broadband Internet
  • Streaming video capabilities to watch recorded lectures

Weekly assignments are downloaded as PDF files from the website. A scanner is required so that students can scan their completed work and upload it to the website for grading.

Feedback and Evaluation:Students will be graded on homework, projects, notes, tests and exams. Submitted student work will be graded and returned within one week of the due dates. Outside of class times, student may contact the teacher using the Canvas messages with any questions or concerns.

Communication:Grades are perpetually available throughout the course and parents may contact me through Canvas messages on the course website. Parents are encouraged to oversee the work of their student for timeliness and completeness.
