Course Description

Are you planning to take Precalculus with Statistics and want to brush up your Algebra 2 skills? In this seven-week self-paced course, Algebra 2 Review will review the major topics and strengthen the skills from Algebra 2, including functions, modeling and transformations, sequences and series, systems of equations, polynomials, exponentials, logarithms, rational exponents and roots, matrices, and basic Trigonometry.

Students will build confidence by self-paced practice and refresh their comprehension of topics by watching video tutorials. Each week, pre-recorded videos are provided. No textbook is required for this course. All worksheets, activities, and solutions will be provided by the teacher.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Geometric Transformations and Matrices
  • Matrices and Systems of Equations and Inequalities
  • Trigonometry
  • The Unit Circle and Radians
  • Functions
  • Quadratics, Powers, and Roots
  • Quadratic Functions and Complex Numbers
  • Solving and Analyzing Polynomial Functions
  • Inverse and Composite Functions
  • Exponentials and Logarithms
  • Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences
  • Summation Notation and the Binomial Theorem

Course Structure

This course will have daily and end-of module assignments. Since the course is self-paced, students should follow the order provided in the outline, but assignments may be submitted anytime during the course, with a recommended minimum time of seven weeks to complete the course. Following an initial conference, the teacher will provide a pacing guide to help students complete the course according to their goals.

Throughout the course, each module must be completed before moving to the following module, to keep students on track. Daily assignments will consist of watching a video, answering questions based on the video, electronic homework assignments using an app that gives immediate feedback and multiple attempts to complete questions, and completing a note sheet of theorems and formulas. End-of-module assignments will be a worksheet covering the week’s topics for which students will complete their answers in pencil, then scan and upload the completed worksheet, self-study, and submission of their notes. Two evaluations will be assigned, each covering half of the course. Students will complete these evaluations in pencil, then scan, and upload for grading.

Who should enroll?

The well-prepared applicant is in grades 10-12, is familiar with and has completed an Algebra 2 course, is motivated to work at their own pace, has the maturity to diligently complete assigned homework, and will seek additional help when needed. Learning how to learn mathematics is stressed in this course, so students who are motivated to improve should enroll.

Prerequisite: Completion or near-completion of Algebra 2. This is a review course.

Technology Requirements

  • High speed, broadband Internet
  • Sound card
  • Streaming video capabilities to watch recorded lectures
  • A scanner or smartphone for students to scan and upload their completed work
