Course Description

Story Ninja is a writing workshop for students developed by bestselling, award-winning author Sigmund Brouwer. To date, more than 1 million students have attended one of Sigmund’s workshops. We are delighted to bring his high-energy, humorous, and motivational teaching approach to Aim Academy.

This live eight week workshop includes 16 lessons that teach 9th–10th graders to use a storytelling frame across their written assignments, including reports and essays. In the process, students will improve their written work in all their other classes. The teaching points show students how to engage their readers and improve their writing skills.

Over the 16 lessons, students will learn the importance of understanding their audiences and what it takes to deliver compelling content. They will also be directed to completing an essay, a non-fiction piece, and a narrative.

The finished pieces of writing will be ideal for developing a portfolio of writing for evaluation purposes. More importantly, the skills they develop will prepare them for the demands of writing through the rest of high school, and give them a head start on the competitive writing situations of post-secondary education.

Course Structure

Each of eight weeks begins with a 45-minute live virtual class on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time, North America), where students interact with Sigmund via the chat box and Q&A.

This is followed each week by two accompanying half-hour recorded video lesson and assignment for you and your students to complete on your own schedule before the next lesson. (If you miss the live virtual class, the recording is available the next morning.)

Your Story Ninja can engage directly with Sigmund for a second live virtual session that runs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time, North America), as well as interact all through the week with Sigmund via the discussion board.

Important: Student work is not graded or reviewed by Sigmund. No assignments are turned in. The workshop includes the live and recorded video sessions, the weekly chat, and discussion boards for interaction with the author and other students.
