Susan Habacivch

You know that moment when, after using as many brain cells as you can muster, after trying and failing, after asking question after question, you FINALLY understand a concept? That “A-HA!” moment when all the pieces finally fall into place? I love that moment.

I have aspired to be a life-long learner, and teaching has given me endless opportunities to learn new things and help others do the same. It is my goal to make my students, (who, let’s be honest, are often not initially excited about the course subject- not everyone is a math geek like me) enjoy the challenges that mathematics and sciences provide by working with them until each and every one experiences that wonderful moment of “A-HA!”

Classes

This course focuses on problem solving on paper as well as using technology such as a dynamic geometry system and graphing calculators to prepare them for future work in college and beyond.

All of the main topics in a high school Geometry class are covered and many fun and creative projects are included.

Algebra 2 is one of the most important high school math classes as it covers many ideas that are foundational to college mathematics. It is also content that is featured on the SATs. This class systematically walks you through the development of those concepts and ideas.

In our information-driven world, almost every college major now requires a course in statistics to enable students to make sense of this wealth of data. Many STEM, business and social science fields also require calculus, so this course combines the critical topics in precalculus, trigonometry and statistics in a unified way to give students a broad platform to launch their post high school studies.

Science is a process for gaining knowledge and understanding of the natural world. The course is designed to continue the investigation of the physical sciences begun in earlier grades. We will build a rich knowledge base to provide a foundation for the continued study of science.

The study of chemistry includes laboratory investigation, problem solving activities, textbook study, lecture, and class discussion. Approximately eighteen hands-on experiments will augment the core concepts studied and fulfill the lab requirement for a high school science credit.
