The future of learning is a topic of great interest to me — just as technology is rapidly reinventing the way we live, I think technology is rapidly reinventing the way we learn. Case in point: Push Pop Press set out to reimagine the book of the future. Here’s a peak inside their first creation:

Don’t get hung-up on the subject matter. Rather, what do you think about the possibilities here? Is this a more powerful learning tool than 20th century textbook?
Unfortunately, Push Pop Press sold their soul to Facebook recently, and no further digital book publishing is planned in their future. But I’m sure other start-up companies will soon be mirroring their reinvention.
What do you think? Do you see ways this kind of presentation of content might be motivating for your kids? Is there a downside?

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed as well when they sold-out to Facebook- but that’s capitalism I guess.
In terms of the book, I still think the concept of reinventing the book is too new to know if this is in fact the way digital books will be created. While I haven’t bought the book (I can’t get behind the message), from what I’ve seen, it seems to be the most intuitive way of doing an eBook; one that really takes advantage of the power available on a digital platform. I hope that similar endeavors (perhaps with better books…) do in fact show up soon.
My daughter who teaches 4th grade has been getting ready to teach a lesson on the human body this fall using her new class set of IPads. That kind of learning tool and this example from Push Pop Press suggests to me what it means to teach children to read is going to really change.
